One year ago, Governor Baker’s Commission on the Future of Transportation released its recommendations for how to prepare the Massachusetts’ transportation network for the challenges of 2040. The report explored everything from the impacts of climate change to the rise of autonomous and electric vehicle technology to adopting transit-oriented land use policies.
Join us to hear members of the Commission, Mayor Kim Driscoll of Salem, and other transportation leaders reflect on the past year and consider what opportunities lie ahead to create a robust and resilient transportation system for the Commonwealth.

The House must vote to impeach, and the Senate must convict and remove President Trump. Staying silent is not an option. If President Trump is not held accountable and his lawlessness is not called out, it enables him and future lawless presidents. We need hundreds of thousands of citizens standing up for the rule of law on the eve of this critical vote. The date of that vote is not yet scheduled. After a decade of study and educational costs approaching half a million U.S. dollars, a young scientist endures a life of endless hours, high stress, and low pay. Black Lives, Native Lands, White Worlds:A History of Slavery in New England

Historian Jared Hardesty will speak about his new book, "Black Lives, Native Lands, White Worlds: A History of Slavery in New England."
Shortly after the first Europeans arrived in 17th-century New England, they began to enslave the area’s indigenous peoples and import kidnapped Africans. By the eve of the American Revolution, enslaved people comprised only about 4 percent of the population, but slavery had become instrumental to the region’s economy and had shaped its cultural traditions.
In this concise yet comprehensive history, Jared Ross Hardesty focuses on the individual stories of enslaved people in New England, bringing their experiences to life. He also explores the importance of slavery to the colonization of the region and to agriculture and industry, New England’s deep connections to Caribbean plantation societies, and the significance of emancipation movements in the era of the American Revolution.
Dr. Jared Hardesty is an Associate Professor of History at Western Washington University. He is the author of Unfreedom: Slavery and Dependence in Eighteenth-Century Boston.

"The Boston Food System [listserv] provides a forum to post announcements of events, employment opportunities, internships, programs, lectures, and other activities as well as related articles or other publications of a non-commercial nature covering the area's food system - food, nutrition, farming, education, etc. - that take place or focus on or around Greater Boston (broadly delineated)."
The Boston area is one of the most active nationwide in terms of food system activities - projects, services, and events connected to food, farming, nutrition - and often connected to education, public health, environment, arts, social services and other arenas. Hundreds of organizations and enterprises cover our area, but what is going on week-to-week is not always well publicized.
Hence, the new Boston Food System listserv, as the place to let everyone know about these activities. Specifically:
